Home Artisan Authority takes top honors at Vesta Awards
Denton construction firm named Remodeler of the Year
(DALLAS, TX – Aug. 23, 2007) –A Denton builder/remodeler firm, Home Artisan Authority, took top honors Saturday (Aug. 18) winning Remodeler of the Year at the annual Vesta Awards sponsored by the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Dallas.
Tyler Wood and Jim McBride, college buddies and national rugby competitors, started their Denton-based business three years ago. Their firm builds and remodels homes and commercial projects throughout Denton, Collin, Dallas and Tarrant Counties.
The Vesta Awards recognize excellence in custom building and remodeling and are among the most coveted kudos awarded by the Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas, one of the largest builder associations in the nation.
“We were surprised – and every happy – to receive Vesta’s top award for remodelers,” says Tyler Wood, partner with Jim McBride in Home Artisan Authority. “We were competing with some of the best-known names in North Texas, so we feel enormously grateful for this honor.”
Wood and McBride are graduates of the University of North Texas and have played competitive rugby as members of the Denton Rugby Football Club, whose recent season took them to the state and regional finals.
McBride and Wood call their company “an old school business – honest craftsmen who do what we say we’re going to do”. They recently completed a total renovation of the VA Clinic in Denton, one of several commercial projects finished in recent months.
“Our real forte is converting kitchens, bathrooms and entire homes to beautiful and innovative creations, from the design stage to final finish-out,” says Wood.
“Tyler and Jim are rapidly building a reputation as one of North Texas’ top remodeling professionals,” says Tom Sadler, an officer with HBA and one of the founders of the Vesta Awards. “Their quality of work and professionalism is outstanding, and for a three-year-old operation, their achievements are very impressive.”
“Our goal from the beginning was to provide a more professional service, more in-depth creativity and excellent results,” says McBride.
After beginning their Denton-based business as J&J General Contracting in 2004, the partners began to realize their vision of their remodeling business would be better served if they remodeled their own operation. They engaged a Dallas marketing firm to help them design a new name, new image and more sophisticated marketing collateral.

Today, J&J General Contracting is a thing of the past, and Home Artisan Authority has positioned itself as the answer to homeowners’ requests for dynamic, equity-building makeovers.
A recent $50,000 kitchen remodel in Frisco’s popular Starwood is a good example.
Ebby Halliday Realtors Sonny and Judi Moyers wanted to update the kitchen in their eight-year-old home to keep the value competitive with neighbors and new construction in the neighborhood.
After six weeks of dust, disruption and construction, Sonny Moyers says “We couldn’t be happier.” He praised Tyler’s initial presentation – complete with his insurance certificate and license and a detailed plan of their proposed work for the kitchen.
The end result – new hardwood floors, removal of a dividing wall and closet and expansion of the island with a granite countertop – is an impressive statement in the home, something Judi Moyers says she wishes they had done years before.
“We’ve significantly increased the value of our home, and we’ve created a much more modern and convenient area that we will enjoy every day,” Ms. Moyers notes.
An important element of HAA’s success has been the ability to build a team of subcontractors who have worked with the company since the beginning. “We have a talented team of professional craftsmen who know we are a solid company that will bring great projects to the table – and we’ll pay them in a timely manner,” says Wood. “That’s absolutely imperative!”
